IP Blocking
What is IP blocking and what does it mean for website visitors? In which cases is it helpful?
One of the most reliable methods to restrict the access to your Internet site is to block the IP addresses of the individuals which must not be able to open it. There are numerous reasons why you should do this. For example, you may want a specific person not to be able to see your Internet site, or you can restrict the access for an entire country. You could also block IP addresses if you detect that there are too many browser requests from them, if a large number of spam comments are left in your websites or if a script login page has been loaded a lot of times. In all of these scenarios, the traffic is most likely fake and has been created by an automatic bot, so you can safely block any shady IP address, in order to be on the safe side. In this way, you'll also avoid the chance of your server getting overloaded by many fake requests.

If you purchase a
Linux website hosting package from our company, you'll be able to see detailed traffic stats for all your websites and if you notice that a lot of the visits to each of them aren't real, you could block the IP addresses that have produced the most traffic by using our IP Blocking tool. The interface is really simple - select the needed domain or subdomain from a drop-down list, then type in the IP address you want to block and save the change. All of the addresses you have blacklisted will show up in the same exact section of the CP, so that you can always remove any of them and permit it to access your website again. You can block whole IP ranges via the tool also - you just have to leave 1 or 2 octets from the address blank. For example, entering 1.2.3. will block all 254 IPs from 1.2.3.1 to 1.2.3.255.

semi-dedicated server account with us and you need to block one or a few IP addresses sooner or later, you'll be able to benefit from the easy-to-use blocking tool, which we've included in our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel. All you will have to do is pick out any one of your domains or subdomains from a drop-down menu, decide if the blocking should be valid for the root folder or for a subfolder that's part of the website, and then input the IP address that you'd like to block. For an IP range, you just have to omit the last octet or the last 2 octets of the address with regards to the size of the network which you want to block. Each of the addresses you have restricted shall be listed in the very same section and if you want to whitelist any of them, you will be able to do it with only a mouse click at any time.
