If emails are a key part of your online correspondence with business associates or relatives, you might be better off using an email address with your own domain name and a provider that supports the POP3 and IMAP protocols, instead of resorting to a web-based service that entails limitations in regards to the size of the attachments. In this way, you will be able to access your mails on any desktop or mobile device using any software – Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail, etc. With the IMAP protocol, you will be able to examine the email messages at your end, but they will be on the server all the time, whereas with POP3, all email messages will be downloaded on the device, unless you choose a copy to be left on the email server. What’s more, you will be able to use lots of other handy options – contact groups, calendars, and so on, not to mention that if there is a temporary problem with your Internet connection, you can still see your emails since they’ll be on your desktop or handheld device.
